Oh, Hey! Hi! Welcome! We are quite excited to be getting into a New Year here at Well Oiled! So many of you connected with us, supported the shop, and became part of the family here and we are all so grateful! Some of you have been with us for a while, and we’re so grateful for you. Others have recently joined us and I thought it would be fitting to take a moment and share the story of Well Oiled with you.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Melissa Robb. I'm a Certified Aromatherapist and owner of Well Oiled. I have three kids who you will often find lounging around the shop, my favorite cookie is the BuckEye, I'm always wearing moldavite, and I love to sing karoke!
I often think back to when I first started my own spiritual journey. It’s surely been a wild ride but so fulfilling at the same time. A few years ago I was not the person I am today. At first it’s daunting to see the changes made but upon reflection, that’s the expected result of the process of spiritual growth - no disappointment there!
Anyhow, I was working a job that I hated. I dreaded going to work but had no other choice. I was tired, anxiety ridden, crying nearly daily, and feeling very stuck. I was surrounded by people but felt very alone and always unseen. At that time I began to work with essential oils in my free time. I had been introduced to them as a way to help my anxiety and fatigue. Through this, I found a passion I didn’t know existed and really felt connected to the oils. One of the things I found that I loved doing was creating custom blends for myself, a few friends, and my family.
I ended up developing a few of my own blends that were a hit. Countless hours were spent at my dining room table measuring oils, hand labeling bottles, creating products, and imagining my future. I took my creations and set up at local craft shows, vendor events, and festivals. It was at these events where I found something that made me feel alive again! I found myself. Little did I know at the time that this was the birth of Well Oiled.
At this time it became clear to me I could not longer work in corporate America. The dissonance was too much and the time I was spending there was taking me away from Well Oiled. Terrified of failure but brave enough to try, I quit my job. The weight was lifted.
After a successful year of craft shows, I found my house over run with bins of inventory and it was time to find a space for Well Oiled. I rented an office suite in Bridgeville and set up shop. This humble space allowed me to solidify the idea of Well Oiled being a retail shop and community space. However, it was small and only left me with enough space to focus on oils. We were so busy the first few months that we outgrew that office suite. I needed to find a larger, more inclusive space where we could grow so I started looking for an actual retail space.
You may be wondering why I chose Dormont as the location for Well Oiled. One would expect a practical reason, but the truth is that I was led there. I had been looking for a retail space for a couple months. I had a vision of what I wanted and every location I looked into either didn’t feel right or would fall through in some way.
One Saturday afternoon I was driving into the city and accidently turned onto Potomac Avenue. As I turned around to get back on track, I saw the “For Rent” sign in the window. Everything after that fell into place pretty seamlessly. I had a vision of a community space for health and wellness and Dormont was a gift from the universe so I could chase that dream.
Since those early days I have shifted and changed and so has my business. From a table with handmade diffuser jewelry and custom essential oils to a retail space filled with oils, crystals, spiritual tools, and supportive staff, I am so proud of what we are able to offer and so blessed by the process and all the beautiful people around us!
2021 is going to be a big year for us here at Well Oiled. We have many of the favorite classes returning like Herbal Cleansing, Foundational Tarot, Astrology, and Candle Magick, as well as some fascinating new ones, including crystal and sound healing, Aromatherapy 101, and more!
We have an amazing group of heart-centered healers and gifted individuals who make up the Well Oiled Team. Each person brings their unique gifts and energy to the shop through readings, teaching, mentorship, and just being there to help and listen when you need them. We are more than a spiritual store, we are a community. Let me introduce you to the Well Oiled Team and tell you a little about what they have to offer!

Something extra special I am excited about launching this coming year is our Spiritual Mentorship Program! We have a group of truly gifted people working at Well Oiled and each one has special gifts, knowledge, and skills. From day one, my vision for Well Oiled was a community space for health and wellness. Well Oiled is more than just a store, we are a community. A community that you are part of! A community that you have and continue to help shape! My hope is that every person who walks into Well Oiled leaves feeling knowledgeable, empowered, accepted, and at peace. Our goal is to help you find your own magic, hold your hand while you explore, and be present for you as you grow! While my shop and I have evolved with time, I have held to my original vision and intentions of individual and community heart-centered wellness.
