Blend of the Month: February

February comes from the Latin word februa, which means “to cleanse”. The month was named after the Roman Februalia, which was a month-long festival of purification. It’s a great month to start to pre-spring clean as well as honor your home, hearth, and domestic life; and begin thinking about all the great things you want to do once spring arrives!

This month we are featuring a blend of Orange Oil, Balsam Fir, and Spearmint! This great combo is bright, happy, and a little effervescent! It will perk you up right out of that winter funk.

Did you know that January and February were the last two months to be added to the Roman calendar (c. 713 BC)? Originally, winter was considered a month-less period. Like we just exist and wait for spring? I can relate. However, all that changed and February was added to the calendar. February is the shortest month of the year, but it’sis packed with many ways to celebrate and honor this season! This month’s blend is as fresh and bright as those spring dreams of yours! I hope you enjoy it!

Orange Essential Oil
Sweet Orange is most commonly known for its wonderful uplifting and calming scent. It just feels like a “happy” oil! When diffused, it can help with nervous tension, sadness, and can improve the aroma of a stale room.

Oranges also lend their energy well to love magick. Oranges carry an uplifting and energizing energy, which can help generate happiness and joy. We all know a little happiness can go a long way for the libido (wink, wink).  Or gift them to your friends and family to express the sentiment of blessings, joy, and friendship. Orange trees planted in the garden can bless the home. They attract abundance and good fortune.

A little known divination method actually involves oranges: if you have a question, think of it as you count the seeds of an orange. An even amount of seeds means “no,” and an odd amount means “yes.”

Spearmint Essential Oil
The mint family is packed with powerful, potent, and prolific healing herbs. Spearmint is a wonderful oil in this family. To some, spearmint can seem like a nuisance, however, those knowledgeable of Mint's incredible power will see a bounty of an herb that has been known to heal many ailments; an herb that provides protection, and an herb that can draw the energies of wealth and prosperity to those willing to harness it. Spearmint is feminine in its magical nature and of the element Water. Thearoma can improve mental powers, and a pillow stuffed with Spearmint can protect you while you sleep.

Mint is generally known for its healing powers. When diluted in a carrier oil and applied to the abdomen, it can help relieve a queasy stomach and bloating. When diffused, Spearmint is uplifting, reduces emotional agitation, improves concentration, and eases physical tension in the head and neck.

Balsam Fir Essential Oil
With a distinctively woodsy aroma that conjures up the scent of the great outdoors, this is easily a favorite oil for grounding. It encourages you to stand with your own power, solidly rooted with your legs like tree trunks. This helps you to ground your ideas and step forward with practical action. Strong and protective, the needles are burned at childbirth to bless and protect the mother and baby. Angels are attracted to balsam fir needles because of their strong ability to help direct consciousness and energy, particularly during spiritual rituals.

The essential oil is steam distilled from the needles of Balsam Fir trees, and has an uplifting yet soothing effect, making it an excellent oil for calming muscles and joints after a long day or intense workout. When diffused or diluted in a carrier oil and applied topically to the chest, Balsam Fir Essential Oil helps support a healthy respiratory system. Additionally, Balsam Fir is widely used by many for its emotional balancing and soothing effects.

A great way to connect to this energy is to use it in a simple and meaningful ritual. For blessings, gather fir needles and cones. Tie the needles with a thread, then burn them in your cauldron [safely, please]. Pass the cones through the smoke, thinking of your blessings.  Place the cones in a conspicuous place where you will be reminded of your blessings and give thanks.

I hope you enjoy this months blend!
